FALCON 9: Elon Musk's Creation

Image
Falcon 9 Falcon 9 Rocket It is a partially reusable two-stage-to orbit medium-lift launch vehicle designed and manufactured by SpaceX in the United States. It is an orbital launch vehicle. It is powered by Merlin engines, also developed by SpaceX,burning cryogenic liquid oxygen and rocket-grade kerosene as propellants. This rocket evolved with versions:- 1. v1.0( 2010-2013) 2. v1.1 (2013-2016) 3. v1.2"Full Thrust" (2015 -present) Variant v1.2 is divided in three blocks: 1. Block-3 (retired) 2. Block-4 (retired) 3. Block-5 (active) Cost per launch: New:$62M(2020)                              Reused:$50M(2019)                                     Falcon 9 can lift payloads of up to 22800kg to low Earth orbit(LEO) and 8300kg to geostationary transfer orbit(GTO)when expended, and 5500kg to GTO when first stage is recovered. In 200...

Chandrayaan-1:ISRO's first lunar mission

Image
Chandrayaan-1 It was the lunar probe of ISRO mission under Chandrayaan program. It was launched on October 22, 2008 and operated until August 2009.It was the first lunar mission of ISRO It includes a lunar orbiter and impactor. It was inserted in lunar orbit on November 8,2008. ISRO launched this satellite using a PSLV-XL rocket from Satish Dhawan Space Centre,at Sriharikota,Andhra Pradesh. The estimated cost for the project was US$54 million. Specifications of Chandrayaan-1 Mass- 1380 kg at launch           675 kg at lunar orbit           523 kg after releasing the impactor Dimensions- Cuboid in shape of  approximately 1.5m(4.9 ft) Communication- X band,0.7m(2.3 ft)diameter dual gimballed parabolic antenna for payload data transmission. The Telemetry,Tracking and Command (TTC) communication operates in S band frequency. Power- The satellite was mainly powered by solar array, which include one solar panel covering a total area of 2.15×1...

NASA SpaceX Dragon Mission

Image
What is Nasa SpaceX dragon mission? The crew dragon is spacecraft that will transport astronauts to the ISS(International space station) on Saturday. It is a sleek evolution of the dragon spacecraft which was built to ferry cargo to the orbiting outpost. The crew dragon is designed to carry maximum of  seven passengers but Nasa flights will carry four, with the rest of the space taken up by supplies. It is equipped with thrusters that enable it to manoeuvre in space and will dock-or attach-to the space station under autonomous control. What is SpaceX? SpaceX is an American company that provides government and commercial launch services on its falcon and falcon heavy rockets.Entreprenuer Elon Musk founded the company in 2002,with the goal of reducing space transportation costs and enabling the colonisation on Mars. SpaceX was the first private company to routinely return rocket stages to Earth under propulsive power so they could be re-flown rather than being discarded. It h...

What is Satellite?

Image
Satellite A satellite is an object that has been intentionally placed into orbit of planets. Satellites are also called as artificial satellites as they are man made and can be distinguished from the natural satellites which are already present in the orbit of any planet naturally. What is the purpose of satellites? The purposes of satellites are: they can be used to make star maps and maps of planetary surfaces. they can also take pictures of that planet they are launched into. Satellites are usually semi-independent computer-systems .Satellite subsystems attend many tasks such as power generation, thermal control, telemetry, attitude control, scientific instrumentation, communication, etc. Types of satellites:- Astronomical satellites : these satellites are used to detect distant planets, galaxies and outer space objects. Biosatellites : these satellites are designed to convey living organisms, generally for scientific experimentation. Communication satellites : these satellites are station...

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO): India's Pride

Image
Indian space research organisation(ISRO) was established in 1962 by Jawaharlal Nehru(first prime minister of India) under the Department of Atomic Energy(DAE). The scientist who intiated the space research program was Dr.Vikram Ambalal Sarabhai.  Headquarter: Bengaluru, karnataka First satellite: Aryabhatta in 1975 launched by Soviet Union In 1980, ISRO launched Rohini which became the satellite to be placed in orbit by an Indian made launched vehicle,SLV-3. Then ISRO subsequently developed two other launch vehicles: GSLV (Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle) for placing satellites into geostationary orbits. PSLV(Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle) for placing satellites into polar orbits.       Then ISRO deployed satellite navigation system like GAGAN and IRNSS . In 2008, ISRO builts Chandrayan-1 to sent a lunar orbit,it launched on October 22 2008, which discovered lunar water in the form of ice. Then ISRO launched Mangalyaan-1 in 2014, which entered mars orbit...
